“Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) safeguard our Mediterranean marine environment so that these may continue to provide benefits to our society for generations to come.
Mediterranean nations agreed to protect 10 % of the marine area by 2020. But they have a long way to go. Today, less than 4 % of the Med is protected and many MPAs are not effective.
We need more and better managed MPAs and WWF needs your help to convince our leaders to act.
In November 2012, important decisions will be made at the Mediterranean MPA forum to ensure that we reach the 10% of protection in the Mediterranean by 2020.
The forum – which will shape the Mediterranean MPA agenda for the coming decade and beyond – brings together government leaders, MPA managers, non-governmental organizations, scientists, and the private sector.”
