PONG-Pesca – Plataforma de ONGs Portuguesas sobre a Pesca
A ideia desta plataforma surgiu pela primeira vez durante o Workshop sobre a Reforma da Política Comum das Pescas(PCP), promovido pela Seas at Risk(SAR), que decorreu na Fundação Luso-Americana para o Desenvolvimento, em Lisboa, no passado dia 21/04/2009. Os membros das Organizações Não Governamentais(ONGs) nacionais presentes no evento concordaram que seria crucial participar no amplo debate sobre a reforma da PCP que decorre presentemente e que seria mais interessante e possivelmente mais eficaz se fosse desempenhada de uma forma conjunta.
E assim, após uma série de reuniões, foi criada a Plataforma de ONGs Portuguesas sobre a Pesca (PONG-Pesca). A sua missão é promover a exploração sustentável dos recursos pesqueiros, em todas as suas vertentes, ecológica, social e económica, tendo em vista a preservação dos ecossistemas marinhos e o desenvolvimento das comunidades costeiras ligadas a esta actividade.
O seu objectivo prioritário é o de acompanhar e participar na reforma da Política Comum da Pesca, em curso até 2012. Não obstante, o âmbito da plataforma foi ampliado, pois tornou-se claro aos seus participantes que as ONGs não são consideradas como stakeholders de relevo na arena nacional das pescas. Como tal, a PONG-PESCA tem como objectivo adicional consolidar-se como um parceiro de referência na discussão e reflexão sobre a Pesca em Portugal.
A PONG-Pesca pretende desenvolver as seguintes actividades principais:
- Produzir uma resposta ao Livro Verde da reforma da PCP;
- Promover o envolvimento da sociedade em geral e, em particular, das partes interessadas;
- Fomentar o debate público;
- Promover a divulgação de informação relevante;
- Promover o consumo sustentável dos produtos da pesca e de aquacultura.

PONG-Pesca – Platform of Portuguese NGOs on Fisheries
The idea for this platform first came up during the Workshop on the Reform of the Common Fisheries Policy held by Seas at Risk (SAR) at the Luso-American Development Foundation, in Lisbon on 21st of April 2009. The members of the Portuguese NGOs attending the event agreed that it would be crucial to take part in the wide-range debate about the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), and that it would be very interesting and possibly more effective to do so in a unified manner.
Hence, after a series of meetings, the Platform of Portuguese NGOs on Fisheries (PONG-Pesca) was formed. Its mission is to promote the sustainable exploration of fishing resources, in all of its dimensions – ecological, social and economic – with the aim of attaining marine ecosystem preservation and the development of the coastal communities associated to the fisheries sector.
Although its primary objective is to take part in reform of the CFP, taking place until the end of 2012, the scope of the platform has broadened, mainly because it has become clear to its participants that the NGOs are not considered relevant stakeholders in the national arena of fisheries. Therefore, PONG-Pesca coalition also wants to establish itself has a reference partner in the reflections and discussions on the Portuguese fisheries agenda.
PONG-Pesca’s main activities will be:
- Production of a technical and scientific response to the Green Paper- reform of CFP;
- Promotion of fisheries stakeholders and general society participation;
- Endorsing public debate;
- Dissemination of relevant information;
- Promotion of sustainable consumption of fisheries and aquaculture products.
