“We have made real progress towards sustainable fishing in Europe. Last year, EU member states agreed new rules that laid the foundations for sustainable management of European fisheries – and some fish stocks are already recovering.
The new Common Fisheries Policy aims to rebuild fish populations to levels that are capable of producing the maximum sustainable yields (MSY) of fish stocks, and requires member states to take social and environmental aspects into account when choosing how they distribute the fishing quota across their fleet.”
